NIAAA Scholarship Timeline The deadline for all Divisions to receive applications is hereby established as Wednesday December 12th, 2007. All applications in each Division must be postmarked by WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 12th, 2007 to be considered for this year’s award.
· December 2007
The Division Liaison will gather all applications from their Division. The Division Liaison will make copies of all applications and distribute them into the hands of the Division Selection Committee. The Division Selection Committee will consist of the Division Liaison and the District Representatives and it will be their duty to select one male and one female winner for their Division. The date of this selection meeting is to be determined by the Division Selection Committee at a time when all members of the selection committee can be present to review applications and render the final decision on the winners for each of the seven Divisions in the state of Illinois. The names of the winners for the Division and copies of their application must be in the hands of the Division Liaison by Thursday January 3rd, 2008. Either by FAX or by email, these winners’ applications must be forwarded to IADA President John Szabo by Thursday January 10th, 2008. President Szabo will be responsible for copying these applications (14 total, 7 male Division winners and 7 female Division winners) and either by mail or electronically get these applications to the members of the Executive Board by no later than Wednesday January 16th, 2008. The Executive Board members will be responsible for reviewing these applications prior to the Sunday, January 20th, 2008 Executive Board Meeting in Tinley Park.
· January 20th, 2008
At a time designated in Mr. Szabo’s agenda, there will be a review and discussion of the candidates for our State Winner. There will be a selection/vote by the members of the Executive Board in attendance and one male and one female winner will be names for the state of Illinois. These winners will be invited to the state conference at Tinley Park to read their essay at one of the General Sessions of the IADA State Conference in May.
· February 29th, 2008
The applications of the winners will be in the hands of NIAAA Liaison Ms. Lynn Gaziano by this date established by the NIAAA Board of Directors.
· May 2008
By working with the Conference Co-Chairs (Ms. Bobbie Monroe & Ms. Deborah Ofcky), a time will have previously been determined for the Illinois State Winners to present their essays to a General Session meeting of the IADA Membership. The Public Relations Chair (Ms. Susan Bonner) will be responsible for inviting the winners to our State Conference as well as informing the student-athletes local media outlets of their selection as our winners.
· April – June 2008 (In Section IV this date will be June 9th-June 10th, 2008)
Representatives at the Section IV Meeting from Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Michigan will select a male and a female Section IV Winner by the process established at last year’s Section IV Summer Meeting
· July 2008
The NIAAA Board selects a male and a female National Winner
· August 2008
National Winners will be notified by the NIAAA Office
· December 2008
National winners and their parents attend the National Conference to be recognized and present their essay
